Thundercat in Oakland offers a warm Bay Area welcome

Bay Area native Guapdad 4000 opened the evening with high energy and a lot of charisma. In between songs, the artist kept everyone entertained with jokes and stories about his humble beginnings just “5 blocks away” from the Fox Theatre.

Guapdad performed hits like “Costa Rica” off J Coles latest project, and “Wells Fargo” was another classic to get the crowd going. He thanked the hometown energy for a modest-sized mosh pit as well. Guapdad expressed how great it has been to be on Tour with Thundercat before ending the set with his first rap song in acapella form, “Money” to show how far he has come in 2 short years.

Thundercat brought all the energy that the crowd had hoped for. From funny personal anecdotes to soulful bass solos it was an incredible live performance. The connection with his band and the way he loses himself in the songs makes the live performances a must-see.

His die-hard fans particularly loved hearing “Captain Stupido,” “Them Changes,” and “Show You The Way,” all tracks off his acclaimed album Drunk, released in 2017. Thundercat makes everyone feel like they are watching a laidback backyard set, relaxed and intimate regardless of the size of the venue. Overall, the evening was filled with great music and vibes from a warm Bay Area crowd.
