Review: The Leisure Society “Alone Abroad the Ark”
by Ange Joachimowicz
UK pop-indie-folk band, The Leisure Society launches their third album on April 16th.
Alone Abroad the Ark starts off with a steady beat that grows stronger throughout the album. Each song manages to combine folk roots with new wave instruments, almost seamlessly.
With influences such as The Kinks, The Beach Boys, Belle & Sebastien, Weezer, Iron & Wine, and The Shins, it’s no wonder this band is composed of individuals with wildly different backgrounds and talents which include producing, filmmaking, and acting.
Their multi-instrumental approach and soft lyrical content create an album full of distinct sounds from the benevolent flute to the classical violin, their trademark style. The ambiance is perfect for a chill house party or a mellow night in, revisiting your senses.
With poignant lyrics such as “These arms are heavy, these feet are raw, I cannot walk, but I can crawl” (in the song “Forever Shall We Wait”) this album leaves a sweet whimsical after taste.
