Celebrating Canada 150 with Electric Island
Here in Toronto the summer season is broken up by the generously spaced out long weekends. For a few years now these long weekends have been highlighted by Electric Island, an electronic music event that takes over an area of Toronto Island for a full day of fun-filled festivities.
The festival kicked off last month at a new location due to some unfortunate island flooding but for July 1st Electric Island returns to Hanlan’s Point for the Canada 150 celebrations. The big news for 2017 is the addition of a second, more intimate stage. The performances are set to be carefully distributed across the two stages – something for everyone.
A man who needs no introduction is booked to headline the big celebration – Richie Hawtin. The rest of the lineup Maceo Plex (real name Eric Estornel) will bring his diverse house and techno sound to the main stage. Germany’s Recondite (live) and Roman Flügel will also join in on the main stage, in addition to up-and-coming smaller acts. Stage Two will feature the likes of Chaim (Tel Aviv) and Atish (San Francisco) followed by Barzoo, Aleksandar Kojic, and Nadia.
