Artists to watch at Governors Ball 2023

Time is absolutely flying this year and it felt like April sped by in a split second. But this means that the Governors Ball is just around the corner and although there are some positively huge names performing this year, there are several lesser-known acts that everyone should be on the lookout for.

Governors Ball is arguably New York’s biggest summer festival and a well sought out event to attend, especially over the past decade. Playing at this festival can get you a myriad of new followers and fans. The up-and-coming acts we are looking forward to seeing this year in particular are Ice Spice, PinkPantheress, Maude Latour, and Ella Jane.

Ice Spice rose to fame when rapper Drake played her song “Munch (Feelin’ You)” on his SiriusXM radio station. Since then multiple songs of hers have risen in popularity through going viral on TikTok. As a Bronx native, she is sure to draw a decent crowd since this year’s Governor’s Ball is being held in Queens NY.

Pink Pantheress first went viral in early 2021 through posting her songs on TikTok, but her collab with Ice Spice for her song “Boy’s a Liar Pt 2” put her on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time and the song peaked in the top five. Her music could be considered in the hyper pop/pop genre and her vocals are smooth and crisp. Governors Ball will be her biggest stage performance yet and definitely, something to look out for.

Maude Latour is another rising star with the potential to really blow crowds away at the festival this year. After releasing her most recent “001” this past September, Latour performed at several music festivals throughout the fall including Austin City Limits and All Things Go. However, as an NYC resident, the Governor’s Ball will be an opportunity to perform on her home turf. Latour’s music is a fabulous mix of indie and alternative pop and her melodies come across playful and almost colorful somehow.

One more artist you won’t want to miss is Ella Jane, an indie-pop singer-songwriter who also went viral on TikTok in 2020 for her song “Nothing Else I Could Do”. After releasing a seven-song EP This Is Not What It Looks Like! in 2021 she gained a loyal following. Ella Jane’s voice is earnest and advantageous to listen to, while also at times being rather punklike. She is young, writes all her own music, just finished her first tour, and is absolutely one to watch at this year’s Governor’s Ball.
