Getting to know Lune through “Music and Sports

by Jackie Willson

Linnea Martinsson is about to take the music world by storm, and that’s a promise. Originally from Sweden, Linnea aka Lune, made her mark by helping produce a beautiful and unforgettable rendition of Swedish House Mafia’s “Leave the World Behind.” Shot in the Norwegian Fjords, the video is visually amazing and the sound is even more breathtaking. Going along with the theme of nature and relationships, Lune is about to release her new album titled Music and Sports. With the delicate innocence of her voice and very personal lyrics, Lune manages to make this album genuine and relatable. She makes a point to connect with the listener from beginning to end and takes us on a personal journey through her thoughts on love, life, and her passion for sports.

Starting off, Lune lays down tracks that are upbeat, creative, and catchy. Grabbing the listener and introducing them to her story with songs like “Tonight” and “Close Dance,” Lune manages to portray a theme of intimacy yet keeps everything lighthearted. With a background in professional dancing and close relationships with producers like Adrian Lux (SHM producer and DJ), it is no surprise that Lune achieves a sound that is electronic inspired and quite poppy. Lune has often been compared to Bjork and some would even say has a little Lorde in her, but while extremely faltering, the sweet sound to her voice and ability to maintain a certain purity sets her apart from other artists. She seems to have her own sound that becomes more and more evident throughout this piece of work.

Continuing the journey, Lune opens her heart to more serious tracks such as “That Day,” “Standing Eagle,” and “Falling.” All a little bit haunting and sad, it allows the listener to get a glimpse into Lune’s thoughts and feelings about relationships, heartache, and being alone. “Standing Eagle” seems to be about endings and closure, but while the vibe changes she still remains to depict a certain strength and independence that inspires the listener. “Falling” is one of the best and most moving songs on the album that pulls everything together. With the lyrics “I keep falling deep into your eyes,” Lune opens up about falling in love and being in a relationship, recovering from the darkness that her previous tracks portrayed.

While a lot of Music and Sports is emotional and sentimental, Lune still makes room for more poppy tunes such as “Feathers” and “Girls with Bangs.” These songs are fun and light, and allow the listener to see the playful and youthful side of Lune. Though she still never strays from the realness of it all and ends the journey with “Epic,” which truly showcases Lune’s voice and exposes a sound of beautiful desperation. It is simple and calm and the perfect way to end her story. Lune is certainly an artist that not only has creativity and talent, but also contains a rare gift of breaking down her boundaries and showcasing her true self to the world.
