CMW, the first annual music festival of the year, is starting this week and will take over music venues all across the city. Much like every year the line up is obscenely large but there is something for everyone. There are a few performances we here at Quip are particularly excited across a few genres and moods, check them out:
TUESDAY night is not holding back despite being an early weeknight. A couple of the notable hip hop acts this night are Joseph Rose and Cardo Antonnio, on the electronic end of the spectrum you should mark your calendars for Bad Willow and HOWARDHuge. A few of the other artists to note are Twin Peaks, Tori Kelly and off course Låpsley.
WEDNESDAY starts with the Indica Records showcase featuring Foreign Diplomats, Misteur Valaire, and La Trboule. Past the French quarters Toronto will also host Germany’s electronic duo Madlick and the homegrown Adrian Underhill.
THURSDAY has a stellar line up of artists throughout. Adelaide Hall will open its doors for a hip hop showcase with KIDS, Noys, and Kaydee. VALLENS will take the stage at Velvet Underground for her rough yet melodic set while Vogue Dots will take over Studio Bar further North. Adée will share her well-rhymed wisdom at the Supermarket at midnight while FILOUS (Garrison) and Irland’s DAITHI (Drake Underground and Rivoli) will spin some dance tracks.
On FRIDAY the scheduling intensity begins to rise. Bonsound and FME take over The Great Hall for a showcase featuring Safia Nolin, Les Deuxluxes, Lisa LeBlanc, Dead Obies, and Radio Radio. At around 10 things heat up with Alana Yorke and Skepta playing at the same time on opposite corners of the city. Fat White Family will play a midnight set at Lee’s Palace.
Saturday begins early with AA Wallace playing a 7:30pm set at The Great Hall. Willa returns to the festival in a more suiting venue, Drake Underground followed by a midnight HUMANS set at the MOD Club. The day’s most promising late night acts are Above Top Secret (1am at the Painted Lady) and Katie Stelmanis (Austra DJ Set), make your pick.
